Thus far, 2015 has been a challenging year with two very important activities underway.
First, we are working with the Board of the National Speleological Society to address member concerns regarding inclusion of NSS publications that may include sensitive information, including cave locations. In the meantime, the Board and KIP managers agreed to suppress many NSS publications (see file attachments below for context). We look forward to a solution that honors all interests.
Second, we are working on a comprehensive review of the KIP content collection, with particular emphasis on a metadata "clean-up." We recently revised the presentation of the metadata to simplify the record displays and to make them more useful. This work will continue for some time.
We want to reiterate our commitment to open-access to important information concerning cave and karst environments. We will work with anyone who seeks to make their information available via the KIP content collection. Open-access improves research and decision-making.
