Information About Sinkholes

On March 5, 2013, a sinkhole opened under a home and resulted in the loss of one life, Mr. Jeff Bush. This terrible event occurred in Seffner, Florida, a short distance from the University of South Florida, the host institution for the Karst Information Portal. Since that time, we have noted a significant upsurge in the number of searches for information concerning sinkholes. Interested in Mexican Caves?

Since 1962, members of the Association for Mexican Cave Studies (http://www.amcs-pubs.org) have been generating a wealth of information concerning the caves of Mexico. What is Karst?

Globally, more than a billion people depend on karst terrains for their water supplies. These environments host great biodiversity that is poorly understood and contains rare and endangered species. The spectacular geology of karst, as well as significant archaeological and paleontological resources, contributes to the overall scientific, aesthetic, cultural, and economic value of karst landscapes.
